Foo Fighters, the long-running Dave Grohl-fronted rock band, are the focus of "Foo Fighters Sonic Highways," an HBO series about the recording of the group's new album. The series debuts tonight at 11 p.m. EST.
Grohl, a vocalist, guitarist and drummer, directed the series, which, according to HBO's website, "taps into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., and New York. The band based themselves at a legendary recording studio integral to the unique history and character of each location."

In conjunction with the debut of the series, HBO has teamed with Facebook to present "Foo Fighters Sonic Highways: Live from the Cubby Bear," "a live stream of the Foo Fighters premiere party concert [in Chicago], which will be made available to fans in the U.S. on the HBO Facebook page," according to a press release from the band's PR representatives.
Foo Fighters' new album, also titled "Sonic Highways," will be released Nov. 20.
Grohl made his directorial debut with "Sound City," a 2013 documentary about the Los Angeles recording studio the same name.
