Talk about a close call! Maria Menounos and her glam squad were attacked with a tire iron while leaving a New York airport Thursday morning.
The 36-year-old TV personality revealed to Us Weekly that her car was vandalized while leaving JFK airport to merge onto the Van Wyck Expressway. An unknown attacker used a tire iron to smash the back right window of their SUV, which left her makeup artist in glass.
"We were merging onto the expressway and all of a sudden we heard an explosion," she recalled. "I thought we were being shot at so I told everyone, 'We're being shot at! Put your heads down!' And everyone put their heads down."
"We waited a second and we didn't hear another shot, so I lifted my head up and turned around, and the whole back window was shattered and gone, not even a stitch of glass was left."
The E! host said she believed that attacker was planning to rob her and her entourage, but ran away when they saw a police car nearby.
"So either someone ran back and smashed the back of the window and ran and nobody saw (them), or someone was in close proximity and threw it through the back window," she said. "Either way, my makeup artist was in the back seat covered in glass."
No one was hurt in the incident, E! News reported.
Menounos, who was in NYC for the launch of Ocean Spray PACt cranberry extract water, later posted an Instagram video from the scene.
"Crazy morning," she wrote. "@giannetos ended up with glass shattered all over him. Someone threw a tire wrench through our window! Everyone is ok - [thank you] for well wishes. Time to go to work!"
She posted a photo of her broken window, with the caption, "Omg this just happened. Huge explosion thought we got shot...now we think someone approached the car in traffic and blew out our window."
