Cleveland Browns rookie Johnny Manziel said he feels a lot more comfortable with the playbook and would be ready to start if his number comes up.
Manziel didn't beat out Brian Hoyer for the starting quarterback job. While he's unlikely to supplant Hoyer this season for the job, Manziel did admit he feels confident if he's ever called upon during a game.
"I feel a lot more confident and a lot more comfortable," Manziel said, via ESPN. "The whole process of being under center a lot more, everything that's involved in this offense, that just wasn't anything that I was to do at (Texas) A&M. I knew it would take some time."
The fact some of Manziel's peers - Blake Bortles and Derek Carr - are starting for their respective teams doesn't bother him, either.
"They are obviously getting the chance to come in early and contribute to their teams," he said. "That's their situation there; that could have been my situation here. So far, that's not the case. I know Coach (Mike) Pettine is talking about the next man up. ... That counts for my position, as well. ... For me to get to sit back and watch this for however long this may be, I think it's beneficial."
Manziel has appeared in only two regular season games so far, and has just one failed pass attempt under his belt. Hoyer, meanwhile, has thrown for 1,224 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception to help the Browns to a 3-2 record.
Cleveland plays Jacksonville on Sunday.
