Human remains that may be those of missing University of Virginia sophomore Hannah Graham were found by a search team on Saturday, according to Yahoo News.

Graham has been missing since Sept. 13. The identity of the remains will be confirmed after forensic tests are conducted. The body was found on an abandoned property in Albermarle County by a search team deployed by the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, according to police.

Thousands of volunteers have canvassed the Charlottesville, V.A. area in the weeks since the 18-year-old disappeared.

Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr., 32, is in police custody and has been chafed with abducting Graham with intent to defile. He was the last person to have been seen with Graham. She was seen leaving the Tempo Bar 2 a.m. on September 13, with Matthew close behind her, according to CNN.

Matthew was arrested on a beach in Galveston, TX about a week after Graham disappeared. His apartment was searched, and after he showed up to police headquarters to ask for a lawyer, he sped off. He was arrested on a beach in Texas a few days later.

After his apartment was searched, he was linked to the 2009 murder of Morgan Harrington. Her body was found in a hayfield three months after she disappeared from a Metallica concert at the UVA campus. He was also forensically linked to a rape in 2012 in Fairfax, V.A.

Newport University issued a statement following Matthew's arrest noting that he was named in a Sept. 7, 2003 sexual assault of a woman on the college campus in Newport News where Matthew was a student at the time.

While studying at Liberty University, Matthew was also accused of raping a student on campus, but the charges were later dropped when the student decided not to move forward with the case.
