Square Enix have revealed that "Heavensward," the first expansion pack for its MMO "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn," will release in spring 2015. FF XIV was released in August of 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and PC, followed by a PlayStation 4 launch in April this year.
There's also an accompanying trailer which is suitably epic and in the true Final Fantasy/Square Enix style. Check it out here:
Naoki Yoshida, the director of FF XIV, announced the expansion in his keynote at the Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest event in Las Vegas. "Heavensward" will be added to the 3.0 update to of the game, and it will increase the level cap to 60, present new Primals, dungeons, high end raids, and jobs. FF XIV will also get a new playable race in this expansion. Yoshida did not comment on which specific race it was, only that it's not Viangaa, as was previously rumored, according to Gamespot.
FF XIV players will also be able to fabricate airships to reconnoiter "Ishgard and beyond," and other new open areas in the game.
In terms of its narrative thrust, this expansion will focus on the Dragonsong War, a thousand-year struggle between Ishgard and Dravania that the players will have a hand in resolving.
Square Enix said that it will reveal more information in regard to the FF XIV expansion at the London Fan Festival which takes place on October 25.
