Halle Berry has partnered with fashion designer Michael Kors to support the U.N. World Food Programme, which provides food for children around the world.
In his efforts to end world hunger, the New York City-based designer is using social media to bring awareness to his cause. Kors told CNN that he promises to donate 100 meals to children in need for each person who posts a picture of themselves wearing his "Watch Hunger Stop" tee, along with hashtag #WatchHungerStop.
"I think the amazing thing about the hunger initiative with the World Food Programme is that everyone has the possibility to pitch in," Kors said. "You don't have to be wealthy. You don't have to be a certain age. You don't have to live in a certain geographical area. Everyone can really contribute."
He added, "We want to see zero hunger in the world ... so we still have a ways to go. I think you can be optimistic; you can have fun; you can be compassionate, and you can be chic all at the same time."
Kors has also designed a new rose-gold-tone, limited-edition 100 Series watch in support of WFP. For every 100 Series watch sold, Kors has promised to donate $25 to WFP to help fight childhood hunger.
The designer initiated the #WatchHungerStop campaign in early 2013, but his involvement with world hunger began in the late 1980s. He started God's Love We Deliver, a nonprofit organization that provides nutritious meals to ill individuals.
Kors asked Berry to join the initiative shortly after starting the #WatchHungerStop campaign. The mother-of-two recently visited a WFP site in Nicaragua and called the experience "incredibly moving."
"It's hard to describe the mix of emotions you feel - sadness, certainly, to sit and talk with children who don't get the nutrition they need to grow," she said of her visit. "But also respect and admiration for their families and communities, who do so much for them. There's a great sense of hope, because this is something that's working."
In a statement about her trip, which was documented by National Geographic, Berry said, "When Michael asked me to join him in this campaign to Watch Hunger Stop, it felt like the right thing to do. It's a cause I care about and I felt I could make a difference."
