Shonda Rhimes' TV shows tend to spice up the screen with a lot of sex, but some fans don't agree with the more passionate scenes between the gay characters on "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How to Get Away With Murder."
"The gay scenes in scandal and how to get away with murder are too much. There is no point and they add nothing to the plot," Twitter user @Dabdelhakiem wrote at Rhimes.
The head of ShondaLand responded to her concerned follower, but sees no difference between her characters' sex lives, gay or straight.
"There are no GAY scenes. There are scenes with people in them," Rhimes tweeted in reply.
She added, "If you use the phrase 'gay scenes', u are not only LATE to the party but also NOT INVITED to the party. Bye Felicia. #oneLOVE."
A gay character or a gay couple exist on all three of Rhimes' shows (Note: Rhimes is only an executive producer for "How to Get Away With Murder," which her protégé Peter Nowalk created). "Grey's Anatomy" has the (for now) married couple Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), "Scandal" has Cyrus Bean (Jeff Perry), who lost his partner James (Dan Bucatinsky) last season, and "Murder" has law student Connor Walsh, who uses his relationship with his tech-savvy boyfriend to obtain information on cases.
"How to Get Away With Murder" delivered one of the best lines on TV this season after Connor hooked up with a male person of interest on his case. "He did this thing to my a** that made my eyes water," the personal assistant told a friend after the hookup.
Rhimes has no hard feelings toward her less understanding Twitter followers. She just wants to spread the love and end the hate.
"I love all you Tweeples. Even the ones who still need to grow. And remember that at some point, someone discriminated against you too," Rhimes tweeted.
She finished by saying, "I don't know why this kind of hate is out there. Ugh. #onelove. At least in Shondaland."
