Children will soon flood the aisles of Toy 'R' Us in search of the perfect Christmas present. However, one wrong turn and they could come face to face with the gun-toting Walter White action figure.
Susan Schrivjer, a Florida mother, wants Toy 'R' Us to pull the "Breaking Bad" action figures from its shelves, and she has launched a petition on Change.org for the toys removal.
"[The store's] decision to sell a 'Breaking Bad' doll, complete with a detachable sack of cash and a bag of meth, alongside children's toys is a dangerous deviation from their family friendly values," she wrote on the petition page.
The "Breaking Bad" action figures include Jesse Pinkman, Walter White and his alter ego Heisenberg. The 6-inch Pinkman figure is dressed in a Hazmat suit and comes with a gas mask, chili powder and a tray of blue crystal.
"Kids mimic their action figures, if you will," Schrivjer told Fox 4 in Fort Myers. "Do you want your child in an orange jumpsuit?"
White also wears a blue Hazmat suit and comes with a small liquid container plus a small and large flask. The Heisenberg figure has a removable hat and sunglasses and comes with a sack of cash and a bag of blue crystal.
"While the show may be compelling viewing for adults, its violent content and celebration of the drug trade make this collection unsuitable to be sold alongside Barbie dolls and Disney characters," Schrivjer wrote with the petition.
More than 3,300 people have signed the petition so far. A search of the Toys 'R' Us website found all of the "Breaking Bad" items unavailable. The action figures may still be stocked on store shelves.
Toys 'R' Us issued a statement to Fox 4 about carrying the toys for mature audiences.
"The products you reference are carried in very limited quantities and the product packaging clearly notes that the items are intended for ages 15 and up. Items from this TV series are located in the adult action figure area of our stores," the toy store said.
"Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston issued his own kind of statement, making light of the whole situation.
"'Florida mom petitions against Toys 'R Us over Breaking Bad action figures.' I'm so mad, I'm burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest," he tweeted.
