Police Allegedly Use 'Excessive Force' While Stopping Bank Robbers

Police allegedly used an "excessive" amount of force when an officer shot 600 bullets at a car containing three bank-robber suspects and their hostage in Stockton, Calf., recently.

Authorities allegedly knew the hostage, Misty Singh, 41, was in the vehicle when 33 officers fired 600 bullets at the car.

It's still unclear if Singh's family is going to press charges, but while discussing the investigation, the family's lawyer Greg Bentley put the fault of his client's death on the officers involved.

"Chief (Eric) Jones confirmed 33 officers fired 600 bullets with full knowledge of a hostage inside the vehicle," Bentley said, according to KCRA. "That is excessive and unreasonable force. You don't shoot unless he or she has a clear shot of the bad guy (and) not when a hostage is inside."

Police are defending the officers, saying they were under fire, afraid if they didn't shoot the violence would worsen and persumed it would keep the suspects from kidnapping other hostages.

The investigation is ongoing.
