Was Jesus being an unattentive husband?
Lawton, Okla., police arrested a woman who told restaurant staff members that her husband Jesus Christ would pay her tab, after eating and drinking at a restaurant for several hours on Friday, The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday.
Kristi Rhines indulged at the Chico Mexican restaurant for four hours, but when she got her $56.55 bill, she couldn't pay and said Jesus would be picking up the tab in cash. Though she claimed they were legally married, she said she didn't have a marriage certificate and was waiting for it to arrive, Break reported. She was arrested for defrauding a business and brought to county jail.
Rhines did not appear to be under the influence or acting strangely when she was interviewed by police on the scene.
Her husband had yet to appear and that's why she couldn't pay the bill yet, she claimed.
Even if the Chico Mexican restaurant didn't accept Rhines' idea of payment, a diner in North Carolina thinks heavenly forces are indeed involved in the restaurant business. The Just Cookin restaurant in Dallas, N.C., sells unpriced items and asks customers to pay what they think God would want. Revenues had tripled as of earlier this month, owner Dana Paris said, according to Business Insider.
On the other hand, Panera Bread tried a pay-what-you-like program but canceled it after the eatery only received 75 percent of the retail price of its items. Santorini Grill, New York City's answer to the flexible payment trend, closed after only four months.
