Comedian Hannibal Buress is taking major jabs at Bill Cosby. During a show last Thursday (Oct. 16) in Philadelphia, Buress cracked jokes about Cosby's alleged sexual assaults, calling the actor a rapist.
"It's even worse because Bill Cosby has the f**king smuggest old black man public persona that I hate," Buress told the audience.
"He gets on TV, 'Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the '80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom,'" he mocked. "Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches. 'I don't curse onstage.' Well, yeah, you're a rapist, so I'll take you saying lots of mutherf**ers."
According to The Daily Beast, Buress was referring to allegations that surfaced in 2006 when a woman accused the "Cosby Show" star of inappropriately touching her. Andrea Constand, 32 at the time and a former employee of Temple University, said Cosby drugged her and then sexually assaulted her in 2004. She claims the incident happened at his Philadelphia home.
"Dude's image, for the most part, it's f**king public Teflon image. I've done this bit on stage and people think I'm making it up... That shit is upsetting. If you didn't know about it, trust me. When you leave here, Google 'Bill Cosby rape.' It's not funny. That shit has more results than 'Hannibal Buress,'" Buress joked.
"I don't know what I'm doing by telling you. I guess I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch 'Cosby Show' reruns," the comedian added.
According to The Daily Beast, Constand said in a civil lawsuit that the actor, now 61, had offered her pills to help her relieve stress but instead they made her drowsy. Constand alleges that she was so out of it she needed help getting to the couch.
That's when Cosby allegedly assaulted her. Following Constand's first public appearance, 13 other women came forward, all with similar allegations. Despite the accusations, Cosby's reputation has remained intact and he worked out a private settlement with Constand.
The Daily Beast reports that it's not clear what the settlement entailed but Constand is not allowed to discuss the allegations anymore.
