U.K. citizens looking to catch a cab with a big group of friends will be happy to hear that Uber is bringing the larger capacity cars in its UberXL ride-sharing service to London and Manchester.
With UberXL, customers in London can call for cars with up to six seats, and those in Manchester can call for cars with up to eight seats, according to TechCrunch. The idea is to make it easier for big groups of people to get around together.
Customers must pay 2.15 pounds per mile, and the minimum fee for a ride is 7 pounds in London and 5 pounds in Manchester.
UberXL was first introduced in San Francisco in May, slowly spreading to New York and other cities since, The Next Web reported.
Several models of large vehicles are used in the service, such as the Mercedes Viano and the Ford Galaxy.
The San Francisco-based company is making UberXL available on its app for iOS and Android, which faces competition from Hailo and other ride-sharing services in London, TechCrunch reported. Black taxis and minicab services in London also pose a challenge to the U.S. firm.
The move is the latest made by Uber to expand its business in the U.K., where the company continues to face opposition from traditional cab drivers. A protest was held in May by taxi drivers who opposed how Uber doesn't use a meter to calculate fares.
