South by Southwest Announces Initial Music Lineup (LISTEN)

Prepping for its anticipated March show, Austin's South by Southwest has announced an initial music lineup, USA today reported on Wednesday.

Jessie Ware, Courtney Barnett, Dry the River, Twin Peaks, Dream Police will be performing alongside an extensive list of artists from all over the world. The festival will see a total of 1,000 acts between March 17 - 22.

The music and media conference gives attendees a glimpse into the industry's upcoming influential musicians during the day with panels, talks, music gear export and the trade show as well as a well as other events, all at the Austin Convention Center.

Actor and director Mark Duplass will be one of the festival's film section keynote speaker, Consequences of Sound reported.

SXSW began in 1987 as a way to give Austin musicians a way to break away from isolation in the middle of Texas and reach the rest of the world. Every year some 16,000 people register from the event, up exponentially from 700 registrants in 1987, according to sxsw.com.

International interest in SXSW came on quickly as American and Texan bands brought in fans from their successes overseas. At the same time, bands from different corners of the globe began wanting to sign up to perform. The festival has officers in Australia, Germany, Ireland and Japan to help bring registrants to Texas in the spring.
