With the record for most career touchdown passes already in tow, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is just adding on to his Hall of Fame resume. The signal caller heads into Thursday's game with 510 touchdowns, but in usual Manning fashion, his only concern is winning the game.
"We're playing a great team in the Chargers, a team we're very familiar with, as they are with us," Manning said, via ESPN. "They beat us last year, so we got to get ready on this short week."
Manning had won three games against San Diego as a Bronco before losing their last meeting on Dec. 12, which also fell on a Thursday. While there are similarities, Broncos coach John Fox doesn't plan to dwell on it.
"We don't live in the past," Fox said. "I've mentioned many times, you spend too much time looking in the rear view mirror, you crash, not looking ahead."
Tasked with keeping up with Denver's scoring is Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who continues to thrive in second-year coach Mike McCoy's offense. Rivers has almost 2,000 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 113.0, helping San Diego to a 5-2 record.
"He's a tremendous competitor," Fox said of Rivers. "We go way back. When I was in the Carolinas, he played at N.C. State, so I had a chance to watch him perform. I know a lot about him as a competitor. I know myself and our organization and our team have great respect for him."
