Dean McDermott is tired of being labeled a monster for cheating on his wife, Tori Spelling.
During an interview with ET Canada this week, the 47-year-old father of five admitted to being ashamed of cheating on his wife of eight years, but said he isn't "the first person to ever cheat on [their] wife."
"When you're at the checkout and you look over and you see one of these magazines and it's like, 'Dean McDermott's a monster,' I'm like, 'No, I'm not a monster, I'm a human being and I messed up,'" he told ET Canada's Cheryl Hickey.
McDermott added, "I messed up and I'm owning up to it and I'm getting help. But to label me a monster or evil is very hurtful. The affair was more about how I was feeling about myself than having an affair."
Last December, the "Chopped Canada" host was reportedly involved in two-day fling with 28-year-old Emily Goodhand. After the affair, McDermott voluntarily checked himself into a treatment center to "address some health and personal issues."
"The affair was more about how I was feeling about myself than having an affair," McDermott said.
McDermott and Spelling have been documenting their material problems on the Lifetime series "True Tori," which is currently in its second season. The show follows the couple as they seek marriage counseling and confront the issues. Spelling is currently hospitalized after reportedly suffering a coughing attack.
"The show we're shooting is obviously very emotional," McDermott said. "It's six days a week. It finally caught up with her and took its toll, so she has bronchitis, sinusitis and pneumonia and she's getting great care at the hospital."
