After a man persisted his wife for sex, he was told something he probably never thought he'd hear: his wife is a supernatural being and she can't consummate her love, Newser reported last week.
She told her husband to speak with her parents for an explanation on the lack of sex, and they told him that their daughter was, in fact, a jinn, similar to a genie. This led him to file for divorce.
Several religious leaders had tried, but failed to rid her of the spirit, court papers in the United Arab Emerates state. His lawyer, Hamda Makki, said in Dubai Sharia Court that his wife and her family ripped off his client, and argued that she didn't deserve alimony.
"The woman and her family cheated my client. They should have been honest and clear about the fact that the wife was possessed by a jinn. He was only told about the jinn after the problem escalated. The woman does not deserve any allowance."
Jinns, or genies, are Arabic mythical spirits able to shape shift into animals and humans to have power and influence over them, the BBC reported.
The court approved the divorce, but required to man to pay roughly 40,000 dirhams, about $11,000 in U.S. currency, to his ex - wife.
Later, the Dubai Appeal Court cancelled the alimony, but still allowed the divorce. It was decided that since she was not honest about her supernatural powers, that she doesn't deserve alimony.
