Microsoft announced Bing Translator app for Windows 8 laptops, desktops and tablets, Friday, June 6, with an all new offline function to translate.
Microsoft has launched the Bing Translator app for Windows 8 laptops, desktops and RT Tablets. The Bing Translator is similar to Windows Phone Bing Translator, but includes "augmented reality" translation, which gives users translated text while streaming live video from the device's camera.
The app can translate highlighted text on a webpage, text in photos and text-to-speech translation. The Bing Translator can translates text in select languages offline too.
Vikram Dendi, director of product management, Microsoft/Bing Translator, pointed out that the Bing Translator features multi-tasking and simplifies the translation process. "The Share Charm lets you quickly translate highlighted text in any Windows 8 app, with Snap View you can multi-task while browsing, chatting or more by snapping Bing Translator to the right or left of your screen," Dendi, wrote on Bing Blog post, today.
The Bing Translator can read the text out loud so communicating with people in different countries is much easier. The app supports 43 languages including Klingon (Kronos).
Languages on the Bing Translator App include Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong Daw, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Klingon, Klingon (Kronos), Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
Dendi wrote that the translator app is a result of "years of Microsoft Research's investments in advancing machine learning," to help people communicate anywhere around the world.
The Bing Translator app is available for download in Windows Store for free.
