'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (TRAILER): James Spader Dishes Behind-The-Scenes Details About Motion Capture Experience

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” actor James Spader dishes details about his motion capture experience on the Marvel set.

Spader spoke to TotalFilm (via ComicBookMovie) about the process explaining what is was like to suit up in the tight jumpsuit and markers. The actor shot his scenes with other actors to help him get into character and his dialogue was recorded live.

"When you first meet Ultron, his physicality is very different to what he evolves to,” Spader said. “It was in the script but we arrived at the metamorphosis of him on the set. In practice, in rehearsals ... We were able to create the physicality of the character on the motion-capture stage.

“They would dot me up and I was wearing a helmet that had two cameras on my face, and they could live stream it to a monitor so we could try different things. Then I'd go and shoot the scene with the other actors and they're recording all of it, including my voice. 9 times out of 10 they were not using ADR (additional dialogue recording) after the fact."

Spader told the magazine he enjoyed the freedom that came with motion capture process. The actor explained if he wanted to change the way Ultron moved in the scene he could.

Ultron is one of Marvel’s most fearsome villains. Spader explained to TotalFilm why he enjoyed playing the villain.

"There's a humerous aspect to him, which is something that drew me in from the very first conversation I had with Joss [Whedon]," Spader revealed. "In many ways he's a child, this character, because he's a brand new being who's just come to be. And yet, through artificial intelligence, he has an incredible capacity for knowledge. So he's a very powerful, smart child."

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
