Dark Horse Comics' 'Polar' Movie In the Works; Constantin Film Set to Produce Adaptation

Following up on this weekend's "John Wick," which scored a very respectable second place at the box office with a $14.2 million dollar haul, Constantin Film and Dark Horse Entertainment are bringing their own revenge thriller "Polar" to the big screen, with an expert killer nicknamed "Black Kaiser" driving the crux of the plot, according to an article over at Super Hero Hype.

Much like Keanu Reeves' Wick, Black Kaiser is pursued by a gaggle of assassins and forced out of seclusion, only Kaiser finds the unmitigated violence of this world in direct contrast to the protective relationship he has developed with the child of one of his former targets. If that all sounds quite familiar that's because it certainly is; the dodgy hitman with a kid in tow shtick has been played out in many films before: in the Japanese manga/film series "Lone Wolf & Cub," Luc Besson's "Leon: The Professional," and the Clive Owen project "Shoot 'Em Up."

"Polar" will be based on the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel "Polar: Came from the Cold" by Victor Santos. The screenplay for "Polar" was evidently written "on spec" by Jayson Rothwell (Silent Night), which motivated Constantin to purchase it. Rothwell is also writing an as-yet untitled heist thriller for Thunder Road, the company that produced "John Wick."

Constantin is currently searching for directors with the goal of putting "Polar" before the cameras sometime in the spring of 2015. Dark Horse also has 2016′s big-budget remake of "Tarzan" upcoming, as well as the long-in-development animated version of Eric Powell's" The Goon" from producer David Fincher.
