Prairie Dog Loses Her Chubs After Finding A New Home

Mamo the prairie dog arrived at her new home in a Japanese zoo in August and as the old joke goes, she was so fat, when she sat around the house, she sat around the house.

The average weight for a two-year-old prairie dog is 800 grams (less than two pounds). Dear Mamo weighed nearly two kilograms (four and a half pounds), according to The Wall Street Journal.

The pudgy prairie dog "had a pretty flabby stomach" and couldn't fit into the holes dug by her nine new roommates, according to The WSJ from information obtained from Noichi Zoological Park in Kochi on the island of Shikoku.

After two months in the new digs (get it?), Mamo has lost 600 grams (about 1.32 pounds). "There is a possibility that her diet changed from where she was kept before, but we didn't do anything special to help her lose the weight," a spokesperson from the zoo told The WSJ. The representative from the zoo said she is unsure where Mamo lived and how she doubled her weight, since she was purchased through a broker.

Despite her ample "after" shape, the zoo said Mamo is moving quickly and digging her own burrows, according to The Wall Street Journal.
