When I was covering NYCC a couple weeks ago "Arrow" lead actor Steven Amell very astutely said that, "It was a golden age for superheroes on television." This is a sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with; it would be hard to imagine, just a handful of years ago, the sheer amount of quality television programs ("Gotham," "The Flash," "Agents of Shield," "Constantine," etc.) that are now based on comic book properties.
Now, according to a report over at Bleeding Cool, it seems that another comic based show is set to join the prime time schedule. "Man of Steel" writer/producer David Goyer is involved in a TV show simply titled "Krypton."
One would think that the title alone would suggest a pre-Superman drama set on the planet Krypton...something in the vein of Fox's "Gotham." But at this stage of the game the show could be about anything: Superman's ancestral House of El, the rise of the evil supercomputer Brainiac, the bottled city of Kandor, or even the life of an everyday Kryptonian teenager.
Goyer penned the screenplay for 2013's "Man of Steel" which portrayed the Kryptonian lifestyle as some sort of fascist dystopia for which the U.S. was a pleasant reprieve and alternative for young Kal El. Comics such as the "World Of Krypton" stories and "For The Man Who Has Everything" have touched on aspects of Krypton in that past, so it would be rather difficult for a show of this nature to completely ignore that kind of source material.
Stay tuned for more information on the future of "Krypton" as it develops.
