NHL News: Columbus Blue Jackets' Sergei Bobrovsky Placed On IR, Injury Woes Continue

Man, it's really starting to seem like someone somewhere kind of hates the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Their already-extensive injury list just got a little longer and a whole lot more pronounced as the team announced today that starting goaltender, and altogether strange cat Sergei Bobrovsky, has been placed on injured reserve after fracturing his finger.

In response to the loss, the team has added goalie Anton Forsberg as an emergency recall from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Falcons.

Bobrovsky was struck by a puck during Monday's practice, and will miss one to two weeks because of the injury, according to a report from CBSSports.com.

Columbus, who withstood a protracted off-season contract squabble with young star forward Ryan Johansen, has been absolutely decimated by injuries so far this year. They are already without Nathan Horton, Boone Jenner, Brandon Dubinsky and Matt Calvert, and now Bobrovsky has been added to the list as well.

Players who have been injured but haven't missed playing time, or have only been out for a single game, include forwards Cam Atkinson and Nick Foligno and backup goaltender Curtis McElhinney.

Atkinson's face was cut by a skate and Foligno was stretchered off the ice during the Blue Jackets' last game. He is said to be alright and won't miss any time.

Thus far this season, the 26-year-old Bobrovsky is 4-4-0 with a 2.81 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in eight games. The former Vezina Trophy winner as the league's best goaltender has appeared in 187 career NHL games between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Blue Jackets.

The 21-year-old Forsberg was originally Columbus' 188th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft. His record with Springfield this season is 1-2-0 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in three games.

Forsberg went 11-11-0 with a 2.44 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in 22 games with Modo of the Swedish Hockey League in 2013-14.

Competing in Sweden's Hockey Allsvenskan league as a member of Sodertalje SK, he ranked second in the league with 2.04 goals-against average and .933 save percentage and posted a 24-9-0 record in 2012-13.
