Yelp Acquires French Review Site Cityvox, Continues Expansion in Europe

Yelp announced Tuesday that it has purchased French review site Cityvox, its latest move to make its business bigger in Europe.

Cityvox provides reviews about restaurants, clubs, cinemas, local brasseries and other nightlife settings, according to The Next Web. Yelp said it plans to make the company's reviews and photos a part of its own platform.

The acquisition follows only several days after the San Francisco, California-based company bought Restaurant-Kritik, the latest purchase made in its European expansion.

Mike Ghaffary, vice president of Business & Corporate Development at Yelp, wrote in a blog post that the Cityvox deal "further illustrates Yelp's commitment to the development of the European market and clearly underlines our goal of becoming the go-to local business review internationally."

Neither Yelp nor Cityvox has announced the terms of the deal, or if Cityvox will continue to operate as a standalone company, TechCrunch reported.

"We are looking forward to integrating this review and photo content into Yelp and putting it at the service of consumers throughout France, whether they be locals or one of the millions of annual visitors to the culture-rich country," Ghaffary said.
