Bing Adds Option To Search By Emoji

For the first time, a search engine is allowing users to search the depths of the Internet by emojis, The Consumerist reported Tuesday.

Bing announced that it was launching the software this week.

"As you likely know, emoji are small pictures used to express an idea or emotion," Bing said.

When and English-language user inserts an emoji into the search bar, the results will be based on the "semantic meaning of the emoji." One example Bing shows is the mountain photo emoji next to an apple, with the results being Fuji Apples.

This move could be a way for Bing to have leverage on Google. Currently, Google is not able to give results for searched emojis. Yahoo, on the other hand, does support them, PC World reported.

Some results were even quite accurate and detail-oriented. Searching a combination of an airplane and a helicopter will bring up the Wikipedia page for the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey military airplane, which looks like a cross between an airplane and a helicopter.

A search using the coffee emoji returned links to Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks national pages, but had to be required with the name of a city to bring back local results.
