An autistic man was found locked in a cage at a private home in Michigan on Oct. 20.
A deputy arrived at the house in response to a call about a civil dispute when he found the 19-year-old locked in a cage bed with the door chained shut, reports The Associated Press.
"When an individual is confines, I mean locked inside of a makeshift cage, that's just not right and I don't know how it could be justified," Huron County Sherriff Kelly J. Hanson tells Click on Detroit.
The house is private property and not a licensed care facility, according to Bob Wheaton, Michigan's Department of Human Services spokesman, told AP.
The two adults in the house, Karen Tolin, 65, and Timothy Tonlin, 66, were jailed awaiting arrangement on vulnerable adult abuse and unlawful imprisonment charges.
Authorities removed three adults and two children from the house during the call, Hanson tells AP.
