Former MLB outfielder Jose Canseco injured himself in an unintentional shooting at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, SB Nation reported.
Canseco is now recovering in a local hospital after allegedly shooting himself in the hand with a firearm by mistake. Police have confirmed that a shot was fired at Canseco's home. Canseco shot off his middle finger while cleaning his gun, according to TMZ.
Canseco has had an eventful post-playing career: he has appeared on reality television, he wrote a tell-all book and he attempted to fight professionally in mixed martial arts.
The 50-year-old played 17 seasons in the MLB, finishing with averages of .266/.353/.515 and 462 home runs. He broke in with the Oakland A's in 1985. Canseco last appeared in a major league game in 2001 with the Chicago White Sox.
