Kansas City forced a seventh game after routing San Francisco Tuesday night, 10-0. Royals rookie pitcher Yordano Ventura pitched seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball and the Royals' offense strung together RBI after RBI to keep their postseason alive for one more night.
"This is what we all prepared for," said Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer, via ESPN. "This is why we play the game."
Ventura dedicated the game to Oscar Taveras, who was killed in a car accident Sunday in the Dominican Republic.
"From the minute that I found out about Oscar, I said this game was going to be dedicated to him," Ventura said through a translator. "I prepared myself mentally and physically for this game, and I'm very proud to be a Dominican, and that's why I brought the flag (to the postgame interview)."
Jeremy Guthrie is tasked with following Ventura's performance. The veteran is coming off Friday's 3-2 win, in which he allowed just two runs on four hits.
San Francisco, meanwhile, will send Tim Hudson to the mound. The veteran, who'll become the oldest pitcher to start a World Series Game 7, according to ESPN, can make amends for Friday's loss with a strong performance and help San Francisco to their third title in five years.
"I'm no different than anybody else. As a kid, you think about it. As a big leaguer, you think about it," said Hudson. "You wonder if you're going to have an opportunity to do it. Sixteen years in the big leagues, I'm finally getting that chance. I can't wait to get out there and have some fun."
San Francisco will also have ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner in the bullpen and available for a relief stint, if need be.
