"American Horror Story" creator Ryan Murphy made a special request to one actor that he especially wanted to guest star on the FX series' latest installment "Freak Show." The actor in question? Neil Patrick Harris, and he accepted the offer, along with his husband David Burtka.
Harris will guest star as a chameleon salesman in the last two episodes of "Freak Show," according to TVLine. Burtka will turn up in the finale in what TVLine described as a "sexy storyline with Jessica Lange's batty chanteuse."
Murphy extended the invitation to Harris in August via Twitter. Earlier this month the "AHS" show runner said the upcoming Oscar host was "game," but he had a few suggestions for his role, Murphy told TVLine.
"He had very specific ideas, so we're working on melding those," Murphy said. "He's awesome. He's obviously one of our great entertainers, and I'd love to see him and Jessica Lange go at it in a really cool, fun way. Neil seems to be intrigued by that notion."
Harris guest-starred previously on Murphy's Fox series "Glee" in season one. The appearance won him an Emmy for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Harris also worked with his hubby Burtka on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." Harris starred as Barney Stinson and Burtka recurred as the stalkerish ex-boyfriend of Lily (Alyson Hannigan) named Scooter.
In addition to his Oscar hosting duties, Harris will also host a new NBC variety show based on the British series "Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. The show will include "comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini games shows, hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars," NBC announced on Oct. 27.
The Tony-award winner will film all 10 episodes in front of a live audience, likely in New York City where he and his husband and their two children are based. NBC did not announced a title or a premiere date for the show yet.
