Ethiopian Nun Vanishes After Leaving New York Convent, Police Say

New York City police are searching for an Ethiopian nun who has not been seen since she left a Manhattan convent last week, PIX11 reported.

Tadelech Yohanis, 30, vanished last Thursday afternoon after leaving the Sacred Heart Convent on Manhattan's Lower East Side, according to the New York Police Department.

Sister Yohanis, who has black hair and brown eyes, arrived in the U.S. on Oct. 6 and was supposed to take a flight back to Ethiopia on Sunday Oct. 26. She missed her return flight.

Police said Yohanis left the convent with her passport but left behind her bag and clothing, PIX 11 reported.

"We're concerned about the sister and we're working with the local police on this matter," a Sacred Heart Convent receptionist told The Huffington Post on Tuesday. "I have no other information for you."

Yohanis, a nun for eight years, is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds, PIX11 reported.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
