Need to lose a few during the holidays? That can be tough, but there is a way. There are lots of wireless apps to help you squeeze into those festive holiday clothes so you can enjoy the holiday that much more:
Diet Assistant - Weight Loss
This is a great option for a variety of reasons. Select the diet plan best suited to you (or create your own), adjust it to your specifications, and get shopping lists for healthy meals meant for fewer calories, including portion amounts and nutrition values. You can track your weight each day (if you want), and to keep you motivated, the app comes with a social networking feature that allows you to chat with other dieters, motivating them and yourself at the same time. This app is a favorite of Buzz 60's Krystin Goodwin, per her Best Apps to Help You Diet During the Holidays short video.
The app is available for free on both Android and iPhone.
Superfood HD
That one word says it all. It's a word synonymous with healthy eating. But therein lies the problem. How do we find out all the different varieties, what they do and how to acquire, prepare and integrate them into our daily diets? This app is the answer, providing mini guides to individual superfoods and their benefits. Get the facts straight on your mobile device and join the superfood movement!
This app is available for $0.99 on iTunes. Also see Superfoods for Android Google Play.
MyFitnessPal
Such a great diet app, it's a surprise it's free on iPhone, Android and iPad!
All you do is input your personal data, including height, age, sex, current and target weights and how long you have to lose weight, and the app sets daily calorie limits for food intake aimed at reaching your target weight in the timeframe you specified. Record the foods you eat and the exercise you've done each day, the app calculates how many net calories you've burned, how much weight you still need to lose and plots your progress on a graph so you can stay motivated to reach your goal before the allotted deadline.
My Diet Coach
This app is not a calorie counter like many others. It's aimed at women more than men due to its nature as a solely-for-motivation app. Through personalized reminders, such as to drink water instead of soda, to prepare healthy meals instead of unhealthy ones, etc., and motivational pictures and slogans, this app drives you to lose those pounds. In the words of Tech Radar, it's more like "a supportive, well-wishing friend than a calorie counter."
This app is available on Android and iPhone.
BMI Calculator - Ideal Weight
This app is simpler than some others in that it calculates your body fat based on a weight to height ratio. It helps to gauge whether/when you need to lose weight, as opposed to showing you your progress toward losing weight. Either way, it would make a great weight-watching partner to any of the above apps. Available through both the App Store and Google Play.
No matter what app, or combination thereof takes your fancy, there is always a way to lose weight, no matter what time of the year it is. Just keep pushing forward and don't give up!
