Islamic State militants shot dead 30 men in the town of Hit in Western Iraq, Wednesday.
Officials and residents of the town said that the militants killed pro-government Sunni tribesmen and Iraqi security force members captured by the group, when they overtook the town.
Residents said that the men were lined up and killed on a main street in the al Bakir district in the town of Hit.
Before they were killed, the militants paraded them through the town, at the same time proclaiming through loudspeakers that the men were apostates who fought against them. The militants then lined up the men and shot them dead, residents said.
Anbar provincial council chairman Sabah Karhout said that the killings were a crime against humanity and called for more international support for the Sunni tribes who were fighting against the Islamic State militants in Anbar province, reports the Associated Press.
In another incident, police said that three soldiers were killed and seven injured when a roadside bomb exploded near an army patrol south of Iraqi capital Baghdad. They also said another bomb blast in Baghdad's eastern district of Ur killed two people and injured eight.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that the U.S. forces conducted 14 air strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.
The U.S. jets carried out the strikes near the Syrian border town of Kobani . The attack destroyed a small Islamic state unit, a command and control node of the militants and some vehicles and fighting positions of the group, the statement said, reports Reuters.
The U.S. carried out six airstrikes in Iraq, three in the city of Fallujah and other three near the town of Sinjar. Two vehicles and several small Islamic state units were also destroyed in the attack, the statement said.
