Alarm Clock App Donates To Charity Every Time Users Hit The Snooze Button

A new app called "iCukoo" donates money to charity every time a user hits the snooze button. App users can choose a charity to make their contribution to and set the price for each time they need a few extra minutes of shut-eye.

"We're totally Cuckoo for iCukoo!" Josh Hart, a partner for the app's creator Chelsea Apps Factory, said on the company website.

The tech company, based in London, created the app to coincide with this weekend's Daylight Saving Time that occurs on Sunday, Nov. 2. So far, the app can only be purchased through the U.K. iTunes store and the company is still working on an Android edition.

"We are now incredibly excited to be in the fortunate position where we can help some of these amazing charities with their wonderful causes. Mobile software is now so intrinsic to our lives - we all spend money with apps," Hart said. "This is one of those opportunities where we as consumers can take something we do every day, snoozing, and, using an app, meld it with something we should be doing every day - helping others."

iCukoo has three simple steps to follow. Users set their alarm to what time they want to wake up (or at least have it ring). They then choose from the five charities partnered with iCuckoo. Last, users determine how much they want each snooze to cost.

"If you snooze the alarm (lazybones!) the app takes not," the iCukoo website says. "When your snoozes have added up to £1 we will text you asking if you want to donate that amount or let more snoozes accrue."

The charities accepting donations through the app include Starlight, a wish granting service for children with serious or terminal illness; Parkinson's UK, the U.K.'s leading charity for Parkinson's disease; the National Literacy Trust, improves literary skills for individuals, school, families and local communities in disadvantaged areas; Prostate Cancer UK, helps men fight to survive prostate cancer and live a better light; and Maggie's which provides practical, emotional and social support for cancer patients and their family and friends.

A similar app available in the United States is the Android's "Charity Alarm" app. Users are charge 99 cents each time they hit the snooze buttons, and can choose from a handful of charities to donate to.
