When 343 Industries took over the reins of the "Halo" franchise they began in a rather auspicious way by revisiting and re-mastering the original, "Halo" game. But "Halo Anniversary" proved to be a hit with many fans of the series, and it also welcomed new players into the "'Halo" fold thanks a major overhaul to the original's last generation graphics. At that point, most fans knew that a follow-up, "Halo 2 Anniversary," was all but a certainty.
The developers will, indeed, be following up with a similar celebration of "Halo 2's" ten-year anniversary, bundling the updated version of the Xbox game as part of their "Master Chief Collection," rolling all four of the titles in the Master Chief's saga into one spectacular package. And the latest cinematic trailer gives fans a sneak peek at what new forms of CGI storytelling can do to a property permanently seared into the memory of many. This new trailer is a dandy, and you can check it out below:
According to Gamespot,
the artists at Blur Studio have proven their skills on a number of video game, CGI trailers, now shifting into the realm of feature filmmaking (they were behind the opening action montage of "Thor: The Dark World"). This new trailer is proof positive that that while graphics may not be everything, they can certainly convince gamers to give a ten-year-old game a second look; especially those who missed out on "Halo 2" in 2004.
The visual overhaul extends to the campaign itself, where, just like its predecessor, players will be able to flip back and forth between the re-mastered game and the original on the fly. This feature, as it turns out, is partly to blame for the game's sub-1080p resolution. Interestingly, the 343 Industries have defended their decision to do this, citing the ability to see how far the game has come as its true purpose; not simply offering an envelope-pushing take on "Halo 2."
Whatever the exact resolution, the trailer shows that the campaign will pack some nifty, visual punches... along with the a few narrative hints and Easter eggs for the upcoming "Halo 5: Guardians."
"Halo: The Master Chief Collection" comes exclusively to Xbox One on November 11, 2014 in North America, with global releases following after.
