Couple With 12 Boys Hoping For Girl In 13th Pregnancy

A Michigan couple with 12 boys is expecting their 13th child in May and wonders if it'll be a girl, Syracuse News reported on Wednesday.

Jay and Kateri Schwandt aren't expecting a female baby, especially at the rate they've been going, but said the family would be very surprised and probably in some disbelief if it did happen.

Jay Schwandt says he would be excited to have a girl and hopes to walk his daughter down the aisle one day.

"As long as we are having all these children, it would be really neat to experience the other side," he said, MLive reported.

The couple made headlines when Tucker, their 12th boy, was born on Aug. 4, 2013. The children range in age from 15 months to 22 years.

"The stuff that goes on in this house is all-boy - roughhousing and wrestling," Jay said. "If there was a little girl in there, I assume it would be different."

But Kateri Schwandt, 39, isn't quite as excited about possibly having a girl as her husband is, even though she has been the only female in the family for 20 years.

"A little girl would be neat to have in the house, but a little boy kind of takes the pressure off," she said. "We know what we are doing. Why change things up?"

Following their birthing tradition, the Schwandts have chosen not to find out the baby's sex ahead of time and insisted they would welcome either sex with open arms.

The mom of over a dozen children said she hasn't experienced morning sickness in any of her pregnancies. She is three months along now, and said she feels fine. Her worst pregnancy symptom is lethargy in the later months.

"I love being pregnant," she said. "I've spent half of my life being pregnant. It's very neat and very special."
