Tortoise’s X-Ray Completely Catches Vet Off Guard

A tortoise who was having stomach problems and was refusing to eat apparently swallowed a turtle pendant.

Lola the Sulcata tortoise had an X-ray at the Avian & Exotic Animal Center in Miami to help diagnose her when the vet noticed a turtle-shaped pendant in her stomach, reports The Associated Press.

Dr. Don Harris, who performed the X-ray, couldn't believe his discovery when he showed the images to the owners.

The owners said they did not recognize the small piece of jewelry that was causing their pet's digestive problems, reports AP. They believe Lola must have swallowed the pendant while grazing in the grass where she is known to sometimes accidently eat rocks.

Harris is keeping Lola at his clinic so he can try and help the tortoise to get the pendant to pass, reports AP. If the pendant does not pass naturally, Lola may have to undergo surgery.
