Reddit is offering a new crowdfunding platform for its users called Redditmade to give a push to realistic ideas and innovative thoughts.
Reddit, the popular online discussion forum referred to as the "front page of the internet," is pushing its vast and dedicated user base toward a good cause. The news sharing site announced Wednesday a new crowdfunding platform, the Redditmade, similar to the popular site Kickstarter with a few alterations. According to Reddit, the home-grown platform is designed to help its users create new things, raise money and support various causes.
The new crowdfunding platform is still in beta stage but many campaigns have already found a place there. Most campaigns featured on Redditmade include T-shirts with various subreddits' alien logos or jokes printed on them. Like in a typical crowdfunding platform, Redditmade requires users to submit an idea or a project design, set a funding goal and get people's funding to reach the goal within a month. Once the projected goal is reached, the money will be transferred to the creator of the project.
What's more interesting is the extra mile that Reddit is taking to help its users get to their respective goals.
"We'll walk you through every step of the process, connect you to our network of quality sourcing partners, work with you on the design if necessary, promote your campaign, and oversee the production and distribution," Reddit says in the platform's intro page. "The best part is there's no risk and zero cost to you (you can even make money!)."
Reddit insists that the new platform needs several changes. The simplistic UI of Redditmade misses out on a major Reddit feature, the upvote and downvote. The only interaction between the users on Redditmade is the pledges they take to support the campaign. Users must register their credit card information to pledge but the news site assures the card will only be charged when the campaign reaches the pledged goal.
Reddit is a popular site among internet surfers and attracts nearly 175 million unique visitors. The main idea behind its crowdfunding effort is to bring users' focus toward smaller ideas from people.
