Arizona Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson played a heck of a game against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, amassing 11 tackles on 73 snaps - quite the total for a defensive back. The only problem is, Jefferson can't remember, well, any of it.
Jefferson, after helping his Cardinals to a 24-20 victory over the Eagles, was forced to pull over for approximately 30 minutes on the drive home from the stadium upon realizing something was wrong, according to a report from ESPN.
"I don't really remember the game," Jefferson said. "I just remember when I started driving ... I just stopped for 30 minutes. I was like, 'What just happened?' I don't remember what happened. It was kinda scary.
"I went home and watched the film on the iPad. It was like seeing you on auto pilot. It was pretty weird."
Jefferson was diagnosed with a concussion on Monday morning. He passed concussion protocol testing on Thursday and took part in a limited practice.
He and Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles are hoping he'll be available for this weekend's NFC showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals will be seeing the return of star cornerback Patrick Peterson, who also suffered a concussion during the game.
But Jefferson says he won't push an injury like this until he's certain he's ready.
"This is your brain you're talking about," he said. "You don't want to do anything like that. I'm just going to see what they say but I feel fine.
"We got a long season ahead of us; I don't want to rush back."
Jefferson attempted to make light of his positive contribution while concussed.
"I might have to push auto pilot a couple more times," Jefferson said jokingly.
