A Seattle teen who brought a bottle bomb to school to impress his friends, is facing felony charges just one week after allegedly threatening to shoot up the school.
Prosecutors claim the 15-year-old brought a Jack Daniel's bottle filled with lighter fluid (that he made at home) to Seattle's Center School and showed it to his classmates in the food court of the armory building, reports Seattle Post Intelligencer.
One classmate revealed that the teen suspect pulled out a lighter at one point, but did not try to ignite the bomb, Seattle PI reports. He proceeded to leave the bomb tucked behind a sign in the food court.
Student witnesses took the bomb and lighter to a school employee, who contacted the authorities.
"His purpose in bringing it was to throw it in the general direction of the kids who were smoking so they would think it was cool," a Seattle detective said of the teen in the charging papers.
The teen confessed that he thought the bomb would help him get accepted into the clique of students he was targeting, reports Seattle PI. The teen also told detectives that he was angered that no one wanted to sit with him or hang out with him.
The Seattle school is coming under scrutiny now because the charged teen threatened a student that he was going to bring "his AR-15" assault rifle to school and shoot him among others in the building, reports Seattle PI.
The threat doesn't appear to have been reported to police and it's unclear whether the school took any disciplinary action.
The teen was charged as a juvenile.
