“Avengers: Age of Ultron” star Robert Downey Jr. claims the film will be a big turning point for his character Tony Stark.
In an interview with Marvel.com, Downey Jr. explained how removing the ARC Reactor from his chest in the end of the third “Iron Man” film has changed Stark’s perspective on the world.
“I thought that the third Iron Man was about [Tony] transcending his dependence on the merits of continuing to wear your wound,” Downey Jr. told Marvel.com. “That was what [director] Shane [Black] and I thought was the real win, that he throws that thing that had become a dependency away. Because that was the question I was always asking, why doesn’t he get those shards out [of his chest]? It’s dangerous.”
“It reminds me of all that stuff, particularly as you get a little older or if you have any existential queries whatsoever,” he added. “Why aren’t I dealing with that which is going to destroy me any second anyway? The armor was kind of an extension of that.”
Stark’s main focus in “Age of Ultron” is to use his endless amount of resources to face any threats of harm towards humanity. Downey Jr. teased Stark wants to prepare for the next worse-case scenario and protect the world at whatever cost it may come to.
Though the actor is excited for “Age of Ultron”, Downey Jr. recently teased his excitement for “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” during a red carpet appearance at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards.
The actor told News Media Gallery (via ComicBookMovie) he’d like his portrayal of Iron Man to hit the “double digits” before his contract is up. Downey Jr. is aiming for an Academy Award for his portrayal as Iron Man in “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1”.
“I’m told it is unlikely I will be nominated – four years ahead of time for my absolutely stellar performance in Avengers: Infinity Wars Part I, but Bobby Duvall’s got a strong shot for this year’s The Judge,” Downey Jr. said.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be released to theaters on May 1, 2015.
