Taylor Swift: ‘Shake It Off’ Singer Secretly Celebrates Platinum Success of ‘1989’ with NYC Party?

Taylor Swift is reportedly already celebrating the platinum success of her fifth studio album, "1989." The 24-year-old singer released the album on Oct. 27 and its already breaking records left and right. According to reports, it was first believed that Swift's new album would sell 750,000 copies but now industry sources believe it could be closer to a million, maybe more.

Sources close to the singer told Page Six that music bosses threw the "Shake It Off" singer a private party at Burger & Barrel in Soho on Thursday night (Oct. 30) to celebrate the platinum-plus sales of "1989."

According to Page Six, it was "a very private and small gathering" with Swift's label boss Charlie Walk in attendance. The songstress was given a Polaroid camera-shaped cake that mimicked the cover of her album and guests were served white truffle burgers.

Despite the album leaking online two days before its official release, sources believe Swift could become the first solo artist this year to go platinum and sell a million copies in its first week. The last time it was done was in 2012 when Swift released "Red."

According to Billboard, the official numbers won't be in until Wednesday morning. If "1989" keeps up the pace, the pop star could also become the first artist to have three albums go platinum in a row. Sources told Billboard that "1989" sold more than 600,000 albums in the first day it went on sale. Most of the sales were from Target, which had an exclusive copy of the album, and Apple's iTunes Store.

Apple also said the new album broke pre-order records in the U.S., previously held by One Direction when they released "Midnight Memories" last year. A large part of "1989's" huge success is due to Swift's constant promotion but also her millions of fans, known as "Swifties."

"Taylor Swift fans are uncommonly loyal," said Anthony DeCurtis, contributing editor of Rolling Stone, about the leak of the album. "I doubt that anyone who wanted to buy the album would be dissuaded by the leak."
