Seattle School Shooting Sees Fourth Fatality

A fourth student has died following a shooting at a Seattle high school a week ago after a fellow student opened fired in the school's cafeteria, CBS News reported on Friday.

Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, died Friday afternoon at the Providence Regional Medical Center. Her family issued a statement expressing their grief.

"Our hearts are broken at the passing of our beautiful daughter," the family said. "Shay means everything to us. In Shay's short life she has been a radiant light bringing us incredible joy and happiness. She has been a loving daughter, a caring sister, a devoted friend and a wonderful part of our community. We can't imagine life without her."

Jaylen Fryberg turned the gun on himself after he shot Chuckulnaskit, Zoe Galasso and Gia Soriano, both 14, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, about 30 miles outside Seattle. Galasso was the first to die in the shooting and Soriano died last Sunday, the Seattle Times reported.

Andrew Fryberg, 15, remains in an intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Nate Hatch, 14, had surgery Thursday to fix his jaw, but is allegedly in satisfactory condition. Hatch and Fryberg were the perpetrator's cousins.

The Tulalip Indian Reservation held a memorial service for Jaylen Fryberg, and described his actions as horrific in a statement.

"All of the young people he attacked were his friends, and two were his cousins," the statement reads. "Parents and children alike are struggling to understand what caused him to act in such a manner. Even though we may never know why, there can be no justification for taking the lives of others. These were the acts of an individual, not a family, not a tribe," the statement said.
