College Football Power Rankings: Who’s Up and Who’s Down?

The rich get richer and the poor stay poorer. At least, the undefeated stay undefeated while the other teams scratch and claw to play catch-up behind them.

The top five has a familiar face back in it while other schools took a tumble in ESPN's college football power rankings.

Mississippi State (8-0) and Florida State (8-0) remain the top two teams after their respective wins this weekend. Big props to the Seminoles for yet another crazy comeback victory.

Auburn (7-1) made its way back to cream of the crop territory by surviving a hot-potato type of game against Ole Miss (6-2). The Rebels saw star receiver Laquon Treadwell break his leg while fumbling the go-ahead touchdown with just 1:30 remaining in the game. That's a rare example of a "Zombieland"-like double tap of pain for Ole Miss fans. But Auburn took advantage of the devastating injury and climbed four spots to No. 3. The Rebels, meanwhile, fall out of the top ten with their No. 13 ranking. Back-to-back losses likely end Ole Miss' playoff chances.

Alabama (7-1) fell three spots to No. 6, but only because the team was on a bye this week. A win against the 16th ranked LSU Tigers (7-2) next week should put the Crimson Tide comfortably back in the top five.

UCLA (7-2) enjoyed the biggest rise in the rankings this week. The Bruins jumped from No. 24 to No. 19, thanks to their second win over an Arizona-based team. Georgia (6-2) and Arizona (6-2) suffered the biggest falls of any teams.

The Bulldogs fell nine spots all the way down to No. 17, thanks to an improbable 38-20 upset loss to the floundering Florida Gators. Georgia misses star running back Todd Gurley more than they care to admit. The Wildcats tumbled eight spots to No. 21, thanks to their minuscule offensive output against UCLA.

Missouri (7-2, No. 25) and Wisconsin (6-2, No. 24) are the only unranked teams from last week to make the jump into the top 25.
