Minnesota Vikings' star running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly engaging in talks to reach a plea agreement in his child-abuse case in Texas, ESPN reported. The two sides could reach an agreement as early as Tuesday.
Should Peterson reach a plea agreement, it is possible that his return to football could be expedited, although nothing is for certain.
The NFL has not shown any interest in removing Peterson from the commissioner's exempt list as of yet. The league has maintained a position of allowing the legal process to play out before taking any action. If Peterson agrees to a plea deal, conversations about his football status would immediately begin.
Peterson is facing a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child following a disciplinary incident in which the 29-year-old used a tree branch to spank his 4-year-old son and left bruises and cuts across the boy's body.
