Does Ashton Kutcher want a redo on the Steve Jobs role? It's available, again.
The latest biopic on the Apple co-founder has lost its lead actor Christian Bale, who decided "after much deliberation and conflicting feelings" that he did not fit the role of Jobs, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin confirmed Bale's casting in an interview with Bloomberg Television late last month. Sorkin had confidence the "Dark Knight" star could handle the "extremely difficult part," and that Bale was "gonna crush it."
"We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that's Chris Bale," Sorkin said.
David Fincher, originally signed on to direct the film, had Bale as his first choice to star as Jobs. The director then backed out of the project in April after he made "aggressive demands for compensation and control," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bale won the part over other big names including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Boyle reportedly approached DiCaprio, who he directed in the 2000 film "The Beach."
Seth Rogen is in talks to play Apple's other co-founder Steve Wozniak, but has not received an official offer for the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jessica Chastain also may be in the running for a role, but the film has not announced any other official casting news.
Sorkin adapted the still untitled screenplay from the Walter Isaacson's biography on Jobs. He reportedly split the film into three acts, he told The Daily Beast earlier this year. Each will take place before a product launch for one of his technological creations including the Mac, the NeXT computer and the iPod.
"I don't know if you remember the ad campaign [Jobs] did. It was the 'Think Different' campaign. 'Here's to the crazy ones.' That's how it began. If I can end the movie with that text and that voiceover ... If I can earn that ending, then I will have written the movie that I wanted to write," Sorkin said.
Boyle wants to start production in a couple months with a quick turnaround. He also planned to meet with the film's actors and actresses this week.
