The trailer for Woody Allen's next film "Blue Jasmine" is out. From what is officially known about the movie from Sony Pictures, "It is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife."
So it follows that in the trailer, Cate Blanchett, who plays the titular character, is seen dealing with a riches-to-rags downward spiral. Forced to go and live with her sister in San Francisco, Jasmine has an emotional breakdown as well - she's described by her sister as "broke and screwed up".
"Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown - there are only so many traumas that a person can withstand till they take to the streets and start screaming," says a distraught and disheveled Jasmine towards the end of the trailer.
The film also stars Alec Baldwin, Louis CK, Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg. "Blue Jasmine" will release in theaters on July 26.
In an interview with Extra, Baldwin spoke about "Blue Jasmine" and his second collaboration with Allen after "To Rome With Love". "Woody is my favorite writer in the movie business," said Baldwin. "So, I did 'To Rome With Love' which was more like a light comedy and there was some farce to that. Then he asked me to do this film, and I was elated. I love to work with him." Baldwin believes "Blue Jasmine" is more of a drama.
Baldwin also commented on working with Blanchett.
"She is truly one of the five greatest actresses in the movies of her generation. She's so talented and she's such a lovely professional woman. It was a thrill to be able to do scenes with her because I hadn't done those kind of heavy scenes in quite a while."
Besides Blanchett's battle with her demons, San Francisco's natives will also be eager to see their city, as shot through Allen's eyes. "We loved that Woody covered so much of San Francisco, as the film will showcase many of the unique neighborhoods that make up The City," said Susan Robbins, film commission executive director, in an interview with sfexaminer.com last year.
