An Instagram account was reported for contacting 20 Australian teens, asking them to send the account naked pictures of themselves last week.
After requesting to follow the girls' posts the account individually reached out to them saying "DM (direct message) us photos of Yr7 nudes - we won't say who sent it and will blur the face," reports Herald Sun.
The account has since been deleted.
"I was so upset, and I kind of felt like I was grieving the loss of my daughter's innocence. I was kind of in shock," one mother, whose teen daughter was one of the victims, told Herald Sun.
There is a chance the account - that is currently being investigated - was set up by "a crazy person who might be trying to get a lot of pictures to onsell or use as blackmail" or originated within a local school, former Victorian policewoman and cybersafety expert Susan McLean told Herald Sun.
Sergeant Rodney Giles suggested that the account could be from organized child pornography operators.
The school that was affected by the picture requests is using the incident to discuss cybersafety warnings with the whole school.
