Microsoft Reportedly Developing Xbox Music Cloud Locker for OneDrive

Microsoft is reportedly giving Xbox Music the ability to support a cloud locker for its OneDrive file hosting service.

Rumors about a OneDrive-Xbox Music integration began in May, but recent reports point in the direction of this integration becoming a reality, according to PCWorld. Such reports include two from Windows Central, one claiming the integration will be free, and another from Friday showing a link that, if clicked on, will automatically create a music folder in OneDrive.

Xbox Music currently provides a service that lets users store their music collections. The service operates similar to iTunes Match, in which it scans the user's songs and matches them to songs already in its catalog.

For the rumored service, Xbox Music will access the created folder on the back end so users will be able to play back their music, Mashable reported.

A hidden code providing direct references to the services was recently found by SlashGear, saying that "All the songs in your OneDrive Music folder are automatically added to your Xbox Music Library. You can play them from your Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 PC or tablet, Xbox, or on the web."

Microsoft's rumored service appears to have functions similar to Amazon's Cloud Drive and Google Play Music, such as sending Xbox Music store purchases to the user's OneDrive Music library, PCWorld reported.

If the Xbox Music/OneDrive integration turns out to be legitimate, it would be the latest move made by Microsoft in expanding its OneDrive offerings, the most recent being providing unlimited cloud storage to Office 364 subscribers, which was announced in October.
