Nintendo is having a problem in the gaming market. Its flagship console, the Wii U is not doing well in sales and is failing to excite gamers enough to spend next generation money on a sub-par gaming experience.
With the announcement of its long time competitors Xbox and PlayStation's new next generation console, it would appear that Nintendo is being forced out of the spotlight for next weeks upcoming E3 showcase. However, Nintendo still has a place at the table and will need to do something alongside of Microsoft and Sony's expos. Here are some of the things that experts expect from Wii U at E3.
Wii U will try to make gaming the focal point of its time at E3. Last year they launched a few good games but they were mostly just proof-of-concept titles to show that the Wii U's model works. Now that that rush is over, it's time to show off what the console can do for the gamer who isn't impressed with gimmicks.
This year's show will likely show fans popular franchises like a new Mario game, something to do with the Mario Kart series, a remastered version of GameCube's Zelda game "Wind Walker" and a new Super Smash Bros.
If there isn't going to be new hardware for the Wii U but there are going to be new games, the time seems perfect for a price drop on the console. GameStop is rumored to be recalling the 8GB Core $299 Wii U.
Nintendo isn't the biggest fan of price drops though, instead they prefer value bundles. If Wii U wants to attract more fans and boost its sales it will need to lower its price and make it seem significantly more affordable. Especially if they're hoping for fans of one or two games to drop that much money on an entire gaming system just to play them.
Despite the changes, it would seem that there is nothing that Nintendo can do to muscle its way into the limelight at E3. With no new hardware and only a handful of new games to showcase, it's got almost nothing on the titan race between Sony and Microsoft.
