Phil Rudd, drummer of rock band AC/DC, was arrested Thursday morning (Nov. 6) for allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill two people. According to USA Today, Rudd was taken into custody in New Zealand, where he lives, and charged with threatening to kill.
He was also charged for the possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. USA Today reports that Rudd could face a maximum of 10 years in prison for trying to allegedly arrange murders. The 60-year-old had a brief appearance in court and was released on bail. He's scheduled for another court appearance on Nov. 27.
According to TMZ, Rudd allegedly tried to hire a hitman in September to kill two other men. The names of the men have not been released. Benny Tarantini, a spokesperson for the band AC/DC released a statement and said they only recently became aware of the arrest and had no further comments on it.
"We've only become aware of Phil's arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil's absence will not affect the release of our new album 'Rock or Bust" - now scheduled for release Dec. 2 - "and upcoming tour next year," the statement read.
