New York Police Tell Rapper Freddie Gibbs Shooter Could Have Shot Him Inside

Rapper Freddie Gibbs is allegedly the target of a shooting which occurred after he performed at a record store called Rough Trade in Brooklyn, Vice.com reported.

Gibbs and two members of his entourage were shot at multiple times by a gunmen. Different reports say there was more than one gunman, according to Vice.

Gibbs did not come in contact with the bullets, and ran back into the venue after the gunmen ran away, The New York Post reported. Gibbs' DJ and another member of his crew were injured in the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. as Gibbs drove down North 9th Street in Williamsburg in a black GMC Denali, according to the Post.

Reports say the gunman was wearing a dark hoodie, and was seen running east on North 9th Street, the Post reported. There have been no arrests, and Rough Trade declined to comment.

After the shooting and Gibbs told the Post: "They tried to kill Tupac. They tried to kill me, I'm still alive."

New York Police told Gibbs the gunman had been trying to blend into Gibbs' entourage while his crew was hanging out inside the Rough Trade's Guardian Green Room, according to the Post.

"He [the shooter] was standing around you guys all night," an investigator told Gibbs, the Post reported. "He was stalking you guys. We can tell on camera, he wanted it to look like he knew you, but it's clear he didn't. When you guys left, he was waiting for you outside."

Gibbs later went on to confirm the incident on his Instagram and assured his fans that he was alright, RollingStone.com reported.

Police say because Rough Trade doesn't have metal detectors and doesn't check customers for weapons, the gunman could have shot Gibbs inside, though he didn't, according to the Post.

"At one point, he [the shooter] was standing right next to you, the opportunity was there if he wanted to shoot," police told Gibbs, the Post reported.
